CBS News announced that Norah O’Donnell will return to mornings full-time, having been named the third co-host of its flagship morning program, CBS Mornings.
O’Donnell rejoins her former co-host, Gayle King, and Nate Burleson at the roundtable beginning Tuesday, September 8. She was previously with the program when it was known as CBS This Morning, from its inception in 2012 until May 2019.
“This is a homecoming for Norah,” said Jon Tower, CBS Mornings’ senior producer, in a note to staffers welcoming O’Donnell back to the newscast. He added that O’Donnell and King created “one of the most memorable partnerships in the history of morning news.”
He went on to say CBS Morning has “something very special” with King, Burleson, and O’Donnell, and with the addition of Vlad Duthiers, Kelly O’Grady, and Adriana Diaz, they have “the strongest cast in morning news.”
O’Donnell is already a busy person at CBS News; in addition to her morning gig, she was named a contributor to the revamped Sunday newsmagazine program, 60 Minutes, in July by the show’s executive producer, Nick Bilton.
O’Donnell has also served as the network’s senior correspondent, focusing on long-form reporting and interviews. She previously anchored and served as managing editor of the CBS Evening News, relinquishing the role in January 2025.
Her task at CBS Mornings will not be an easy one, as she will be trying to reinvigorate a newscast that has fallen further behind CBS News’ morning rivals, ABC News’ Good Morning America, and NBC News’ Today in the ratings.
In the most recent weekly ratings, the broadcast finished with 1.109 million total viewers and 253,000 Adults 25-54 demo viewers, behind its closest competitor, GMA.
