Apple will use Google’s Gemini artificial intelligence models to power a new generation of Siri, the companies announced Monday, marking a rare partnership between longtime rivals and a tacit admission that the iPhone maker needs outside help to accelerate its AI ambitions.

Under a multi-year deal, Google’s models and cloud infrastructure will underpin Apple’s foundational AI models and power features rolling out later this year, including Apple’s updated Siri assistant, the companies said in a joint statement

“After careful evaluation, Apple determined that Google’s Al technology provides the most capable foundation for Apple Foundation Models and is excited about the innovative new experiences it will unlock for Apple users,” the companies said.
