2026 Golden Globes Win With Nikki Glaser But Make Risky Bet on Polymarket Ads

These announcer segments were poorly received on social media, as the pair talked over winners walking to the stage and filled the air with relatively irrelevant comments like, “Will [Timothée Chalamet] thank Kylie Jenner again tonight?” They also repeatedly pushed award-show odds from the cryptocurrency-based prediction site Polymarket, further drawing the ire of social media.

In addition to viewers lamenting a betting site’s inclusion in a show meant to celebrate the arts, Polymarket has also recently been the subject of controversy, with recent allegations of insider trading as some accounts profited from the U.S. operation to capture Nicolás Maduro.

As TheWrap noted, the Polymarket ads were called a “new low” for the awards show and an “end-times indicator.”

Though the Globes broadcast didn’t win, Polymarket did.

According to Vanity Fair, more than $185,000 in bets were placed on the winner for Best Motion Picture, Drama. The outlet reports that, though Polymarket was predicting Sinners to win, Hamnet took the award.

Podcasts paid off

This year, the Golden Globes added a podcasting category for the first time, and—announcer segment aside—it was largely a hit.

Good Hang With Amy Poehler won the inaugural podcasting award, with Poehler taking the stage and giving one of the best speeches of the night as she accepted the award from Snoop Dogg.

“This is exactly how I pictured it. Snoop giving me the award,” Poehler said, also noting that, when award shows get it right, “it makes sense.”

Meanwhile, the Golden Globes handled its unconventional podcast category inclusion by letting Nikki Glaser parody the Nicole Kidman AMC commercials for the podcast era, hilariously integrating ads along the way.
