NBC News’ Today widened its lead over ABC News’ Good Morning America in total viewers for the week of May 4. It remained America’s No. 1 morning news broadcast in both total viewers and the Adults 25-54 demo.
Despite Today extending its lead over GMA to over 150,000 total viewers, the demo race between the two morning shows tightened, with only 56,000 demo viewers separating the two newscasts.
Meanwhile, GMA was the lone network to record week-to-week declines in total viewers and the advertiser-coveted demo, and CBS News’ CBS Mornings finished the week with gains in both categories.
According to Nielsen’s national live+same-day big data plus program ratings, GMA averaged 2.892 million total viewers and 467,000 viewers in the A25-54 demo for the week of May 4. Compared to the previous week, ABC News’ morning show was down -2% among total viewers and in the demo. When looking at how it performed in the same week in 2025, GMA was up by +6% in total viewers and +3% in the demo.
Today remained the top morning show in total viewers and the demo with 3.059 million and 523,000 viewers, respectively, for the just-concluded week. The broadcast had a +1% gain in total viewers but fell by -12% in the A25-54 demo compared to the previous week. When put up against the same week in 2025, Today was up +18% in total viewers but dropped by -16% in the demo.
CBS Mornings had 1.834 million total viewers and 303,000 viewers in the A25-54 demo for the week of May 4. Compared to the previous week, CBS News’ morning show was up by +1% in total viewers and +2% in the demo—the only morning show with week-to-week gains in both categories. Versus the same week in 2025, CBS Mornings was down -6% in total viewers and -5% in the demo.
