To commemorate its 175th anniversary on Friday, The New York Times took the opportunity to thank the people who really make its reporting possible: the advertisers.
Starting Sept. 18, New York Times Advertising is running a multi-page print spread pulling together seven of the most memorable ads to have run in the paper, dating back to 1851 when the publisher first launched.
The ads were selected for their cultural relevance, iconic status, and the advertisers’ long relationships with the paper, according to Tusar Barik, senior vice president of marketing at The Times. None of the featured brands paid to be included.
