ABC News’ Good Morning America remained the most-watched morning news show for the second week in a row. However, only 50,000 total viewers separated GMA from Today for the week of December 8. Meanwhile, Today remained the champ in the advertiser-coveted Adults 25-54 demo.
Despite claiming the top spot, GMA joined CBS Mornings in posting week-to-week declines in both measured categories for the just concluded week, while Today was the only morning show with gains in the demo.
According to national live+same-day big data plus program ratings from Nielsen, GMA averaged 2.850 million total viewers and 462,000 viewers in the A25-54 demo for the week of December 8. Compared to the previous week, ABC News’ morning show was down by -1% in total viewers and -4% the demo. Looking at its performance to the same week in 2024 (Dec. 9), which was calculated with Nielsen panel data, GMA was up by +6% in total viewers and +2% in the demo—the only morning broadcast with gains in this year-over-year comparison.
Today remained in first place in the demo but fell short of finishing in the top spot in total viewers, with 600,000 and 2.8 million viewers, respectively, for the just-concluded week. The broadcast was down -2% in total viewers but was the only morning show to gain in the demo, rising by +11% compared to the previous week. Looking at how it performed during the same week in 2024, which was calculated with Nielsen panel data, Today was down by -2% in total viewers and -15% in the demo.
CBS Mornings had 1.964 million total viewers and 307,000 viewers in the A25-54 demo. Compared to the previous week, CBS News’ morning show was down by -5% in total viewers and -15% in the A25-54 demo. During the same period in 2024, which was calculated with Nielsen panel data, CBS Mornings experienced a -4% decline in total viewers and a -22% decline in the demo.
