American Express is launching new tools that enable people to shop using agents as large language models (LLMs) continue to eat away at traditional search.
The Amex Agentic Commerce Experiences Developer Kit aims to help developers integrate shopping capabilities into agents, while the Amex Agent Purchase Protection program protects against fraud and disputes in agent-driven transactions.
The financial services giant joins institutions including Mastercard and PayPal in developing software for agentic AI in a bet that agents will eventually buy on behalf of consumers.
American Express’ tools can be integrated with commerce-enabled agents that AI answer engines like OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Google’s Gemini, and Anthropic’s Claude are developing.
