How News Outlets Are Covering President Trump’s State of the Union Address

President Donald Trump is set to deliver his fourth State of the Union Address on Tuesday, Feb. 24. This will be the first SOTU address of his second term, where he is expected to recount the accomplishments of his first year as well as set his agenda for the coming year—which will include the midterm elections in November. 

Trump’s address will be followed by the Democratic response from Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger.

The various news networks are providing detailed coverage of the address and response ahead of a consequential election season. All times are Eastern.

ABC News

  • David Muir will lead coverage from Washington D.C., joined by Linsey Davis, Mary Bruce, Martha Raddatz, Jonathan Karl, Pierre Thomas, Rachel Scott, and Jay O’Brien. Analysts include contributors Donna Brazile, Chris Christie, and former Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy.  
  • ABC News Live will have comprehensive coverage, with Kyra Phillips anchoring a special pre-show starting at 8 p.m., followed by network coverage of the SOTU. Davis will anchor the post-show from 11 p.m. to midnight.

BBC News

  • Special programming will run from 8 p.m. to midnight, anchored by chief presenters Sumi Somaskanda and Caitriona Perry live from Washington. They will also be joined by a panel of former lawmakers and political strategists to break down the major moments in the speech, providing context and analysis. 

C-SPAN

  • Live coverage begins at 7 p.m., hosted by Peter Slen, with news updates from Greta Brawner. Reporters, including The New York Post’s Marisa Schultz, Politico’s Alex Gangitano, Axios’ Alex Isenstadt, and Spectrum News’ Taylor Popielarz, will also be part of the coverage. 
  • On C-SPAN2, coverage begins with a simulcast of the 7 p.m. preview, transitioning to Sights and Sounds from the House chamber at 8:45 p.m. John McArdle will anchor coverage from Statuary Hall after the address.

CNBC

  • The CNBC.com Politics team will run a live blog during the State of the Union. The team will also have pre- and post-SOTU coverage.

CNN

  • The network’s live coverage kicks off at 8 p.m. ET, led by Jake Tapper anchoring from Washington and Anderson Cooper from New York City. 
  • They will be joined by Kaitlan Collins, Kasie Hunt, Abby Phillip, John King, and the network’s political experts. Dana Bash and Manu Raju will report live from the Capitol, Kristen Holmes will report from the White House, David Chalian will present CNN’s instant poll results, and Daniel Dale will provide live fact-checks.
