The battle for the most-watched morning news shows continues to be close, with NBC News’ Today retaining that title for the second week in a row in both total viewers and the Adults 25-54 demo. Today needed 30,000 additional total viewers to maintain its lead over ABC News’ Good Morning America.
According to Nielsen’s national live+same-day big data plus program ratings, GMA averaged 3.065 million total viewers and 527,000 viewers in the A25-54 demo for the week of January 26. Compared to the previous week, ABC News’ morning show was up by +7% in total viewers and +3% the demo. Looking at its performance to the same week in 2025 (Jan. 27), GMA was up by +15% in total viewers and in the demo—the only morning broadcast with gains in both measured categories in this year-over-year comparison.
Today was the No. 1 overall morning broadcast, finishing with 3.095 million total viewers and 652,000 demo viewers for the just-concluded week. It edged GMA for the total viewers win, thanks to an additional 30,000 viewers. The broadcast was up +5% in total viewers and +7% in the demo compared to the previous week. Looking at how it performed during the same week in 2025, Today grew by +14% in total viewers but experienced declines of -8% in the demo.
CBS Mornings had 1.833 million total viewers and 285,000 viewers in the A25-54 demo. Compared to the previous week, CBS News’ morning show was down -3% in total viewers and -13% in the A25-54 demo. During the same period in 2024, CBS Mornings saw double-digit drops of -14% in total viewers and -30% in the demo.
