Week of March 9 Morning News Ratings: Morning Shows See Declines

NBC News’ Today remained America’s most-watched morning newscast in total viewers and the prized Adults 25-54 demo for the week of March 9.

This was Today’s eighth consecutive win in both measured categories, but NBC News’ morning news joins ABC News’ Good Morning America, and CBS News’ CBS Mornings in losing viewers across the board.

GMA managed to close the total viewer gap with Today, as only 80,000 total viewers separated the two broadcasts.

NOTE: CBS Mornings was retitled on Tuesday (03/10/26) to CBS Morn. This retitled telecast is excluded from the weekly and season averages. CBS’ weekly averages are based on four days (Monday, Wednesday-Friday).

According to Nielsen’s national live+same-day big data plus program ratings, GMA averaged 2.838 million total viewers and 452,000 viewers in the A25-54 demo for the week of March 9. Compared to the previous week, ABC News’ morning show was down by -5% in total viewers and -9% in the demo. Looking at its performance to the same week in 2025 (March 10), GMA was up by +12% in total viewers and +4% in the demo—the only newscast with year-over-year gains within this comparison. 

Today remained in first place in the morning ratings, finishing the just-concluded week with 2.918 million total viewers and 634,000 demo viewers. Overall, 80,000 total viewers separated Today and GMA, as ABC News’ morning show tries to make the race for first place interesting. Meanwhile, Today recorded declines of -10% in total viewers and -4% in the demo compared to the previous week. Looking at how it performed during the same week in 2025, Today was up by +18% in total viewers and was flat in the demo.

CBS Mornings had 1.688 million total viewers and 273,000 viewers in the A25-54 demo. Compared to the previous week, CBS News’ morning show was down -5% in total viewers and -2% in the A25-54 demo. During the same period in 2024, CBS Mornings declined by -10% in total viewers and -18% in the demo—the only morning show with viewership declines in both measured categories within this comparison.
