ABC World News Tonight was the only evening newscast to grow in both total viewers and the Adults 25-54 demo for the week of November 17.
With ABC News’ evening news program available across all distributors, it posted its largest lead over NBC Nightly News in the demo in five weeks. Unfortunately, NBC News’ broadcast was the only one to post week-to-week declines in both measured categories.
Note: The weekly averages of ABC World News are based on four days (Tuesday-Friday). Monday’s (11/17/25) broadcast was retitled to WNT-ABC due to the NFL. This broadcast is excluded from the weekly and season averages.
According to national live+same-day big data plus program ratings from Nielsen, ABC World News Tonight with David Muir averaged 7.939 million total viewers and 995,000 Adults 25-54 demo viewers for the week of November 17. The evening newscast grew by +5% in total viewers and +4% in the A25-54 demo compared to the previous week. Looking at its performance for the same week in 2024 (the week beginning November 18), WNT was up by +2% in total viewers but fell by -10% in the demo.
NBC Nightly News remained the No. 2 newscast in total viewers and the demo, averaging 6.44 million and 864,000 viewers, respectively. The broadcast was down -4% in total viewers and the A25-54 demo. When comparing its performance to the same week a year ago, Nightly News was up +2% in total viewers but dropped by -7% in the demo.
Finally, CBS Evening News had 4.137 million total viewers and 529,000 viewers in the demo for the week of November 17. The broadcast was down -1% in total viewers and remained flat in the demo compared to the previous week. Its year-ago week numbers showed the newscast declining by -12% in total viewers and -20% in the demo—the only broadcast to fall within this yearly comparison.
