Last month, President Trump was surprised to learn that a basic ticket for the World Cup cost $1,000.

“If people from Queens and Brooklyn and all of the people that love Donald Trump can’t go, I would be disappointed,” the president told the New York Post. “I would like to be able to have the people that voted for me to be able to go.”

There’s no word on what percentage of expected World Cup attendees voted for Trump, but one thing’s clear: Though attendance might well shatter records, the World Cup isn’t drawing the volume of international visitors that boosters had hoped.
