Tyler: Let’s say a studio acquired ten YouTube channels. They should bring them in house, give them infrastructure and support, and let them grow. Creators are like talent—they just need the right resources to flourish. Fox is doing this, both through Tubi and by hiring Billy Parks from the Chernin Group.
Mark: What do you think the next six months hold for the creator space?
Tyler: Look at the wrongful termination lawsuit that a former employee filed against Mr. Beast last week, which alleged sexual harassment and retaliation for taking maternity leave. I think this is a warning call for creators. These are federally protected statuses. They think they can enable this “boys will be boys” mentality, but I think the MeToo movement is going to hit the creator economy in a big way.
